Introduction
Three Rivers staff are exploring the potential for a singletrack mountain bike trail within Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve. The vision is to provide a high-quality riding experience in a first-ring community, supporting the growing interest in mountain biking, while continuing to protect the high-quality natural resources within the Park Reserve.
In 2025, Three Rivers began operating several park units at Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes that previously were managed by the City of Bloomington, and that cooperative agreement with the city presented an opportunity for Three Rivers to explore options related to a singletrack trail at the park reserve.
Three Rivers staff evaluated the potential for a singletrack trail at Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes and have concluded that a high-quality, destination mountain bike trail could be developed in the park.
A general location for the trail within the park reserve has been identified (see the map below); however, no trail design has taken place. The design process is expected to occur in spring and summer 2026.
As we begin the process, these project goals have been identified to help guide design and construction of the trail project.
Preserve and protect the high-quality natural resources within the park reserve
Minimize impact to other park users
Minimize impact to neighboring residents
Minimize crossings of existing in-park trails
Protect the cross-country ski infrastructure in the park by closing the singletrack trail in the winter months
Construct a trail that flows well with the existing landscape and topography
Provide a mix of beginning, intermediate and advanced trails, with some challenging technical sections and features
Use existing park amenities for parking, restrooms and drinking water
As we embark on the design process for the trail, we want to hear from you. Please take a short survey about the trail. You’re also invited to attend a public open house about the project; details are as follows:
