Lowry Nature Center in Carver Park Reserve is collaborating with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) to develop an interpretive trail about Dakota perspectives on natural resources in the park, and we'd like to invite you to share feedback with us on the project in this initial stage of development.

The project is in collaboration with SMSC’s Understand Native Minnesota initiative to change the narrative of Native education in Minnesota. We are working on developing an interpretive trail that will enhance current education materials for K-12 school groups and general park visitors, serve as a destination and resource for park educators to improve Native education offerings and trainings, and bring awareness to and celebrate Native people who live in Minnesota.

We are reaching out to local Dakota community members who can provide knowledge, perspectives and insight throughout the development of the trail to ensure the project is accurately and appropriately representing Dakota content. Project evaluators can be compensated for their participation with the potential to earn up to $1,600.

More information about the project is available here.
